Revisiting some urbex

High School Gym, Gary, Indiana

I’m in the process of organizing my image catalog in an effort to refine and expand what I present on this site. One of the areas I’ve neglected in both my blog posts and my galleries is Urbex. For those of you not familiar with the term “Urbex,” it is short-form for “Urban Exploration” — basically, exploring (and photographing) abandoned buildings in an urban environment.

I know. Sounds a bit scary. But it really isn’t. OK. Sometimes it isn’t safe, but I’ve almost never been scared.

Anyway, in the near future I will be adding a gallery of some of my personal favorite Urbex images. Some of the locations I’ve explored were with permission and/or paid access, others were taken in locations that I had no right being in. I won’t differentiate in the gallery, but might give details in blog posts. Like this one…

This was taken in an a abandoned High School in Gary Indiana back in 2020. I was there with friends (never Urbex alone, people!) just to photograph this distressed city’s abandoned properties. No, we did not have permission. No, we were not scared.
